About Us

MyPrivacyRights.ca is a free plain-language legal information platform built for every person in Canada. We explain how federal and provincial privacy laws protect your personal information, health records, and digital life, and what to do when those protections are not being respected.

Our Mission

Our mission is to make Canadian privacy law understandable for everyone, regardless of age, occupation, immigration status, or technical background. Privacy is not a specialist topic. It touches every person who uses a phone, visits a doctor, rents an apartment, works a job, studies at a school, or interacts with a government service.

We serve individuals, families, workers, students, patients, job seekers, tenants, consumers, and anyone who wants to understand the legal framework that governs how their personal information is collected, used, disclosed, and protected in Canada.

What We Do

MyPrivacyRights.ca provides:

  • Plain-language explanations of Canadian privacy law, including PIPEDA, the federal Privacy Act, and provincial privacy regimes
  • Province-by-province coverage of BC PIPA, Alberta PIPA, Quebec Law 25, and the full range of provincial and territorial access-and-privacy acts
  • Dedicated guidance on health privacy (PHIPA, PHIA, HIA, HIPA) and how your personal health information is protected
  • Information about consent, breach notification, access requests, correction requests, and complaints to privacy commissioners
  • Guidance on CASL, biometric privacy, workplace privacy, surveillance, children's privacy, and emerging issues in AI and automated decision-making
  • Summaries of key Canadian privacy case law and commissioner findings
  • Direct references to official government sources so you can verify every statement

Our Founder

KnowMyRights.ca and all its satellite sites were founded by A M Monjur Hassan, an IPTV Platform and Service Administrator at Beanfield Metroconnect Inc. and a graduate of Concordia University. With over nine years of experience in Canadian telecom operations at Rogers Communications and Beanfield, Monjur brings deep expertise in regulated infrastructure, compliance processes, and service delivery.

Outside his professional career, Monjur spent years personally navigating federal regulatory complaint processes through the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB), the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (OPC), and the Canadian Human Rights Commission (CHRC). That direct experience, combined with hundreds of hours of self-directed legal research, revealed how scattered and inaccessible Canadian legal information is for ordinary people. KnowMyRights was built to solve that problem.

Monjur is not a lawyer or paralegal. This platform is an information aggregation service, similar to Steps to Justice and CLEO, not a legal advice practice. All content is sourced from official Canadian government websites and legislation.
